Kickstart Your Career In Aviation

There are multiple career opportunities and avenues that a pilot with a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) can pursue, they vary across multiple industries including but not limited to tourism, agriculture and passenger transport.

Career opportunities for a Commercial Pilot Licence holder can include:

  • Aerial Surveillance
  • Air Ambulance
  • Pilot
  • Commercial Airline Pilot
  • Corporate (private) Pilot
  • Fire Spotting/Bombing
  • Search & Rescue

Students won’t often commence immediate employment with a commercial airline after completing their training, as large Commercial Airlines (generally) require CPL qualified pilots to have flown a minimum of 500 hours in command before being considered for a pilot position. To achieve this graduates usually take one of two paths:

Regional Flight Work

Some students will choose to move to a more remote part of Australia, usually NT or WA where aviation work is more readily available.

In these areas the community is heavily reliant on light aircraft for the movement of people and goods, and graduates can use these jobs to build up their flying hours.

Flight Instructor Work

The second option is to complete an Instructor Rating and engage with teaching others to learn to fly. This allows the Instructor to build up to the minimum 500 hours in command working in a capital city rather than a remote area.

The Instructor Rating can also be a desirable additional qualification if you choose to commence your airline application process.
